青海拉脊山区广泛发育着寒武纪和奥陶纪火山岩,尤以前者为甚。青海省地质局第一、二区测队及陈庆室等曾进行过研究,将岩石的主要基本类型定为安山岩。1974年该局十三队张昌伦曾将其定为以玄武岩类为主。1972年西北地质科学研究所拉脊山组首先发现岩矿鉴定结果与化学分析结果存在着明显的矛盾现象,怀疑其主要应属玄武岩。经1971-1975年的研究,将其主要基本类型定为玄武岩,并指出,不同时代和层位的火山
