张居正是有明一代杰出的内阁首辅,明朝自嘉隆万以来已是弊政丛生,对此,他以天下为己任,立志改革,挽救危亡。任职期间,他认识到唯有手中大权独揽才能保障改革成功,由此他谨慎从政,万历十年升任内阁首辅;身居辅臣,他不拘一格举荐人才,并委以重用;又敦本务实,改革学校教育;宜时宜民立法、严于执行法令。经过改革,万历十年出现海内殷阜、法度修明的盛世局面,正因为张居正的努力,明朝危机得以暂时缓和。 Zhang Juzheng was the first cabinet assistant to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
