The Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held at the critical moment of the Great Revolution from April 27 to May 9, 192. The assessment of the top five in recent decades and Chen Duxiu’s re-election in the top five have always been the focus of controversy in history. Based on the newly released Communist International Archives, this article concludes with the traditional view that the actual situation of the top five is not the party’s general secretary, Chen Duxiu, but the Communist International and its representatives, by combing the relationship between Chen Duxiu and the Chinese Communist Party’s Fifth Congress. There are obvious flaws, but can not be completely rejected; Chen Duxiu’s re-election in the top five is an inevitable result of history and not a decisive factor in the eventual failure of the Great Revolution.
