Objective To study the relationship between impulsivity and executive function in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods From January 2005 to July 2007, 187 ADHD children (all conforming to DSM-IV notices) were enrolled in the Mental Health Institute of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the Psychology Department of the Ninth People’s Hospital of Zhengzhou City, and the Children’s Hospital of Zhengzhou City. Diagnostic Criteria for Defective Hyperactivity Disorder) were compared with 126 controls in the Barratt Impulsivity Chinese Version (BIS) and Wisconsin (WCST) Card Sorting Tests. Results There was no significant difference in WCST score between ADHD impulsive group, ADHD non-impulsive group and control group (P> 0.05). The three factors of BIS and impulsive total score were significantly different from those of WCST card classification test Negative correlation (P <0.05). Conclusion There was no significant difference in executive function between children with ADHD and control children (P> 0.05). However, the stronger the impulsive behavior, the more likely the child was to have a random error.
