无缝钢管生产中,自动轧管机、连续式轧管机、周期轧机、顶管机和三辊轧管机等一般可生产φ60~660mm的无缝钢管,但这些轧机用于生产更大或更小直径的无缝钢管就很不经济。更小直径的无缝钢管多以热轧无缝管作坯料,再经冷轧、冷拔加工获得;更大直径的无缝钢管,例如有些低压输送管道,一般都使用成本较低的焊管。但是大直径焊管性能满足不了石油、天燃气输送管道及工程结构用大直径管的要求,因此这种大直径无缝钢管便采用大型轧机
