Tony Cragg’s earliest encounter with the domestic audience should be in 2005. At the second Beijing Biennale, he won the first prize of the sculpture. What is puzzling is that this exhibition, a very official activity carried out at the diplomatic level, seems to have deliberately overlooked this local award. It is the artist himself, who often weighs the prize with other honors he has received, such as the Turner Prize of 1988 and the Honor of World Culture Awards by His Royal Highness Takamatsu Japan in 2007. It should be said that the 2005 Beijing Biennale was known as the largest international contemporary art and sculpture biennial in the world at that time although it was not actively discussed in the contemporary art world. At this point, we can still vaguely appreciate some of the works of Cragg conservative and moderate color.
