In June 1999, I received a letter from Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province. The writer wrote Cao Xiaowen, a school girl studying in Shangqiu Commercial School in Henan Province. Before October 1998, I was ignorant of her life. With that interview in the disaster area in Jiujiang in 1998, I was “acquainted” with her family. The letter was written for the purpose of her father being criticized as English model and martyr. In her letter, she said that after the flood disaster last year, Cao Guizhen, her deceased father, was reported by the relevant departments as “second-level British model” and “revolutionary martyr”. Both of these things have been widely publicized in the local media. Xiao Cao said in the letter, now eighty-nine months passed but no below, the appraisal did not comment, but also set people to tell her home. My mother did not know how to answer inquiries from her friends and relatives, and she was never freed from the sorrow of losing her father. Xiao Cao asked me to help her in a letter to find the relevant department to ask. I am duty-bound.
