The U.S. government released the latest healthy diet guideline report on January 2. The report is called the “Healthy Guide to Eating in the United States” (the “Guide”), and the U.S. government publishes such a report every five years. A joint committee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (DA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) wrote the report with recent diet and health research information. The guideline advises the general public to eat low-fat foods rich in complex carbohydrates, including cereals, vegetables and fruits. For the first time, the U.S. government claims that vegetarian food is good for health. Vegetarians do not eat meat, chicken, fish and other meat dishes. Most American vegetarians eat cereals, vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Vegetarians must maintain their appetite to maintain their body’s demand for protein, iron, zinc and B vitamins. The Guide states that the intake of high-fat meat should be limited. Weekly cooking should also be a small amount of use of various animal fats and vegetable oils. The Guide also recommends that you consume foods that contain extremely high levels of salt in a controlled manner. Eat less salt can reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
