From 1964 to 1973, the United States and South Korea conducted nearly a decade of military cooperation in Vietnam. The achievement of military cooperation between the United States and South Korea in Vietnam is the result of the overlapping of the strategic interests of each other. The stage characteristics of the military cooperation between the two countries are closely related to the degree to which the strategic interests of both countries overlap. During the Johnson administration, on the issue of Vietnam War, the strategic interests of both countries of the two countries overlapped more closely, and the military cooperation between the two sides made a tacit understanding. With the Nixon administration’s strategic change in East Asia and the divergence of strategic interests between the United States and South Korea widening, the military cooperation between the two sides will soon come to an end. The military cooperation between the United States and South Korea in Vietnam has also exerted a corresponding influence on South Korea’s own development, bilateral alliance and U.S. policy towards Korea.
