Cruising the Pacific Coast： From California to Canada
We were looking for a “different” kind of cruise， so after reviewing dozens of colorful cruise 1）brochures， Rob and I chose the seven day Coastal Wine Country tour on the Golden Princess注1. We liked the Los Angeles-Vancouver route and ports.
At 2）Pier 93 in Los Angeles， it took only 15 minutes to check in. Just back from dry dock updating， the 3，100 passenger ship had a fresh carpet smell and a new Horizon Court buffet. Throughout the ship we found friendly international crew eager to please. We noted today’s cruisers are somewhat younger and prefer casual dress.

We chose “Anytime” dining in the Bernini（main） dining room. Making a standing 7 p.m. dinner reservation enabled us to 3）bypass a long entrance line. While dining with friendly cruisers from Australia， Canada and throughout the U.S.， we enjoyed exchanging tips and 4）anecdotes with other 5）veteran cruisers.
Waiters delivered delicious meals with smiles and a sense of humor. Anyone trying to decide between two desserts got both！ One of my favorite meals was a 6）shrimp cocktail followed by green specialty salad， an amazing 7）broiled salmon and a 8）sinful dessert.
A popular casual dining option， International Café served European-style sandwiches， salads and 9）wicked desserts 24 hours a day （extra charge for beverages）. Cruisers can find 10）alcoholic 11）beverages in seven venues and food in nine.

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES船上活动。
Music is a big part of the cruise experience. Entertainment venues offered everything from folk and classical to jazz and rock， as well as dance music. The Princess Theater hosted 12）Broadway-style production shows with singers and dancers， plus comedians， a 13）mentalist and more. In the 14）piazza on deck， five things were always happening： a series of musicians， fashion shows， 15）spelling bees， games and more.
To 16）work off the calories， cruisers hit the 17）fitness center， swam， danced or simply circled the ship on the walking deck. With a 18）casino， karaoke， art shows， wine tasting， lectures， spa consultations and treatments， plus onboard shopping and specialty classes， no one was bored.
For us， the 19）highlight was the bridge tour where an officer explained the ship’s communication and 20）navigation systems. We were 21）thrilled to experience the same views senior officers have as they control the ship.

Pretty purple 22）jacaranda trees welcomed us to Santa Barbara. At the 23）waterfront， we hopped on the white shuttle bus （50 cents， 25 cents for seniors） to attend church services. While there， sunshine broke through the morning fog. From the waterfront we walked past the yacht 24）basin to the 25）Maritime Museum.
Later on the popular Santa Barbara 26）trolley tour， Richard， our knowledgeable driver， made local history come alive with fascinating anecdotes about the city’s architectural styles， celebrities， and local 27）entrepreneurs including Ty Warner， inventor of Beanie Babies注2.
On State Street， beautiful government buildings 28）meld with a row of friendly 29）retailers who warmly welcome cruise ships. The trolley tour included a 20-minute stop at Old Santa Barbara Mission.
美丽的紫色蓝花楹树欢迎我们来到圣巴巴拉市。在海岸边，我们搭乘了白色的穿梭巴士（每人50分，老人25分）去参加礼拜仪式。到教堂的时候阳光刚好拨开晨雾。后来我们从海岸边走过游艇泊区，去到了海洋博物馆。

SAN FRANCISCO旧金山。 Our ship docked at Pier 27 for a full day. We chose the Woods & Wine tour with San Francisco City Sightseeing Tours. It was a joy to walk among the giant Coastal Redwood trees in Muir Woods， just 30 minutes from Fisherman’s 30）Wharf. The fresh 31）piney scent and peaceful environment are great for the soul.
我们的邮轮会在27号码头停靠一整天。因此，我们加入了旧金山城市观光团的森林与红酒之旅。缪尔森林离渔人码头也就30分钟的路程，漫步于缪尔森林高大的海岸红木林间，真是一种享受。这里到处都散发着清新的松树味道，环境也十分清幽，令人心旷神怡。

In Canada’s island city， welcoming hosts directed cruisers to waiting shuttle buses. A motor coach driver narrated passing scenery as he drove us to the world-famous Butchart Gardens， which were 32）ablaze with millions of spring flowers. Built on a former stone 33）quarry， the spectacular 34）sunken garden elicited a “Wow” factor from everyone.
A special treat was 35）high tea with a delightful variety of tasty teas， tiny sandwiches and sweet treats elegantly presented in a three 36）tier server. The gardens are open all year， displaying seasonal flowers to a million guests. Christmas is a magical time with musical entertainment， massive 37）poinsettia and 12 Days of Christmas displays.
After we have learned about Victoria’s famous landmarks， history and neighborhoods， the considerate driver offered to drop off cruise guests just a few blocks from our ship.
