A prototype of a large pneumatic ballast truck manufactured by British Rail Research and Plasser was commissioned for use by the British Railways (BR) in November 1984. The prototype weighs 80 tons and is powered by the Rolls Royce engine with three articulated bogies. The prototype is equipped with a hopper bucket and a grabbing device, which can carry about 10 tons of ballast for loading and unloading, which ballast is enough to meet the needs of a work shift. The prototype uses compressed air to fill a pre-calculated amount of new ballast under the sleeper to restore the orbital geometry. The first step of the process is to determine the geometry of the orbit without a load using a tiltmeter and convert it into a longitudinal section at load. This longitudinal section is the basis for calculating the number of new ballast required by the computer to meet the orbital geometry. Then lift the track so that each one
