华南热带作物科学研究院热带经济植物园,地处海南岛西北部,距海口市140多公里。园内林木清翠欲滴,果木争荣,奇花异草并茂,郁郁葱葱,生气盎然。自1958年建园起,已引种栽培国内外名贵的热带经济植物500多种。它象一颗珍奇的宝石,闪耀在祖国的宝岛上。入园正门,是一条柏油大道,大道两旁栽植两排油棕,枝叶婆娑,花果金黄,那排球大的油棕果穗,一个挤一个地镶在树上,令人喜爱。沿大道走大约一公里,便是热带作物科学研究大楼和教学大楼。研究大楼前面是一个长200米、宽50米的庭园,内设两个对称的椭圆形花坛,花坛里植有各种既可供观赏又可作药用的花卉。研究大楼后面是巴西橡胶品系区,种植着国内外橡胶优良品系18个,有当 South China Institute of Tropical Crops Tropical Economic Botanical Garden, located in the northwest of Hainan Island, more than 140 kilometers away from Haikou City.
