In February 1960, the Mount Everest Climbing Team in China was formally established with a total of 214 members. They came from all walks of life: workers, peasants, PLA, teachers, students, government officials and scientific researchers. Nearly 100 tons of materials are needed to climb Mount Everest. The government has prepared two aircraft for the mountaineering team and deployed a large number of workers to build Dingri Airport. From Shigatse to Mountaineering Camp, 380 km of roads have been built . Meteorologists set up a provincial-scale meteorological observatory at the base camp.
