京剧艺术家吴素秋女士,是“四大名旦”中“尚”“荀”两派当今硕果仅存的高龄得力传人。她全面继承这两派艺术,又经博学广纳,融汇贯通,有所发挥。她根据自身特点,创造所扮演的不同时代、身份、年龄的女性,表露内心感情于唱、做之中,形成自己的风格。她演出这两派的代表作,既不失原有风貌,又有自身特色,达到“似与不似”的境界。“文革”后,许多观众称之为“吴派”,她却非常谦虚地说:“我可不够一派,尚荀两位的艺术,我还没学到‘家’呢!”然而后辈中,以她为师的并不乏人。
