实用理性是我们民族精神的一个基本特征，千百年来对我们民族文化、心理结构和行为方式产生极为重要的影响。本文从实用理性和纯粹理性的区别与中西实用理性精神比较入手，指出我们民族的实用理性包括三个要素：实用主义、实利主义、人道主义。然后着重从当代国人的行为方式和改革开放实践出发分析实用理性的表现和特点，指出其利弊，进而为对国民性格的把握乃至民族文化在现代化基础上重建提供清醒的认识和可供观照与选择的思路。
Practical reason is a basic feature of our national spirit. For thousands of years, it has an extremely important influence on our national culture, psychological structure and behavior. This article starts with the difference between practical rationality and pure rationality and the practical rational spirit of both China and the West.
