The constellation of four identical spinostatites is scheduled to launch into orbit at the end of 1995. The satellites will be orbiting in orbit to collect various scientific measurements of the earth’s magnetosphere. This task is part of ESA’s contribution to the International Solar Geoscience Program (STSP). This is the first time that ESA has used a two-component propulsion system for scientific satellites. The article describes each satellite’s attitude and trajectory control and management subsystem (AOCMS), highlighting the new features of AOCMS. This includes propellant tanks developed to meet the need to load large quantities of propellant, platinum alloy thrusters for high thrust and long life thrusters, and ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) that handle important electronic functions.
