Love has always been one of the eternal topics of mankind. Under the influence of Western religious asceticism, the description of love in his literary works is often filled with the struggle between “human nature ” and “divinity ”. This article tries to analyze the multi-faceted personality of Clergy from “The Notre Dame de Paris” - Claude, demonstrating that he is a special character with coexistence of good and evil worthy of mercy. He is both a religious fanatic and an apostate. He turned from a kindhearted young man into a sinister vicar, and he was also a victim, not a simple sinner.
