The World Bank-financed Taihu Flood Control Project, which involves 13 counties in Jiangsu, Shanghai and Zhejiang provinces and cities, requires the acquisition of 28,000 mu of land, the temporary occupation of 47,000 mu, the demolition of houses of 800,000 square meters, and the relocation of 20,313 people. The compensation for land acquisition and house demolition for this project is 250 million yuan, accounting for about 12% of the total project investment. Since the start of construction in 1991, 22,000 mu of land has been acquired, accounting for 80% of the planned number; 380,000 square meters of houses have been demolished, accounting for 50% of the plan’s number. The resettlement work has made immigration due to the adoption of “preliminary compensation, subsidies, and later support” and the implementation of preferential policies.
