Hodgkin’s disease (HD) has a characteristic Sternberg-Reed (SR) cell. There is much debate about this cell, focusing on the origin of SR cells. This article summarizes the most representative point of view, hoping to clarify the controversy over the origin of some SR cells, may explain some of the special phenomenon of the disease. Originated from B lymphocytes is mainly based on the discovery that SR cells containing the immunoglobulin, lymphocyte predominance and nodular lymphoid / tissue cells in the SR cytoplasm contain IgG and J chain, and each cell contains a light chain . These findings suggest that lymphoid / histiocytic SR cells are B immunoblasts. These SR cells are positive for specific B cell monoclonal antibodies and have nodular cirrhosis
