The Present Situation of English Teaching in High School and Teaching Reform Strategies

  【摘要】基于二十多年的高中英语教学经验以及参加全国高中优质课竞赛,本文阐述了我国高中英语教学现状,分析当前高中课堂教学的不足,并提出教改策略。

  In October, 2014, a contest for high?鄄quality classes among high school English teachers in China was held in Sanya. Over 600 teachers including me from different regions participated in it. So I have written this essay to present my view on the phenomenon reflected in this contest and reflect over the problems to be solved in English teaching reform in China. Through this essay, I exchange with other teachers the three aspects: the present situation of English teaching in high schools, the drawbacks and strategies for English teaching reform.
  I. The present situation of English teaching in high schools in China
  1. The concept of communicative foreign language teaching has been identified. Participants had a clear purpose of communicative foreign language teaching, showing since the English teaching reform, it’s been coinciding with the tendency of foreign language teaching in the world.
  2. The quality of English teachers in high schools has greatly been improved. Participants designed their teaching activities focusing on the language function and the ability of using the target language and considering the language structure, expressed in their new and original activities, student?鄄centered teaching activities and communicative classroom.
  3. Career development of teachers is the popular concern and teaching research has been penetrating into classroom teaching. 600 teachers participated in the contest, but about 3000 person?鄄times enthusiastically viewed and emulated their classes, which is a good omen for the development of English classroom teaching in China.
  In summary, from the perspective of this contest, English teaching in high schools in China has been greatly developing, which lays a solid foundation for improving the quality of foreign culture in China, thus saving time and increasing teaching and learning efficiency.
