最近,我让学生做一篇汉译英练习,原文是北京理工大学冯长根教授的自述(约600字)。文字不难,却有相当多量的隐含义(implicit meaning)和社会历史的背景情况。学生做作业时对这些方面似乎都不太注意,仅从字面来译,译文当然问题就不少。我的办法是①批改作业时划出有问题的部分;②发回作业时同时发给两份参考译文;③在课堂上按类型指出有关部分,请同学参照原文阅读自己的译文及两个参考译文;④逐点进行讨论,辨明译法的正误并明白其中理由。
Recently, I asked the students to do an English-Chinese translation exercise. The original is a self-introduction (about 600 words) from Professor Feng Changgen at Beijing Institute of Technology. The text is not difficult, but there is a considerable amount of implicit meaning and background of social history. Students do not seem to pay much attention to these aspects when they do their homework. Of course, there are quite a few problems with translations from literal translation. My approach is ① to modify homework to draw out the problematic part; ② send homework at the same time send two reference translations; ③ in the class by type that the relevant part of the classmates, please refer to the original text to read their own translation and two references Translation; ④ point by point to discuss, identify the translation method is correct and understand the reasons.
