本文对于DAT在广播电视专业领域中的应用及其前景,以及与其它专业数字音频设备在使用功能方面都做了一些概要性的介绍和比较。而且也提出了目前DAT在专业领域的使用中还存在的某些问题。当然,这里面也包含了一些原著者的个人看法和主观评价。在这里,我们特别需要说明的是:从原文发表(1990年8月)至今短短一年多的时间里,DAT技术又有了飞速的发展:具有毫秒级编辑精度及交叉衰减功能的专业DAT编辑系统已经商品化。子码区时间码已取代了纵向轨迹时间码,并可与其它音频、视频设备进行同步及跟踪同步。民用型DAT也全部都采用了能够与SMPTE/EBU时间码单向兼容的绝对时间码。从专业到民用DAT都有了四磁头系统的机型。并且,使用15毫米磁鼓的DAT Walkman也早已商品化。因此,希望读者能够以发展的眼光来读这篇译文。当然,这篇文章对于目前我国许多正在开始接触或使用DAT的读者还是有一定帮助的。这也是我们翻译这篇文章的目的。
