In a sense, “The New Wave of the Eighth Five-Year Plan” marks that Chinese art has entered the stage of modernism. This is closely related to the influence of Western modernism on China in the 20th century. The most direct and lasting one is undoubtedly the American abstract expressionism (New York School) that flourished from World War II to the 1950s and 1960s. . The diversity of the New York School of Painting attracts many Chinese artists since the 1980s so they can draw on the former at all levels. This article discusses the process of this reference from three factors, and takes the case of an artist as an example to discuss the forms of works produced from different perspectives.
