In 1999, the US National Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the clean fuel standard Tier II, requiring that the sulphur content in gasoline be no more than 30 μg/g by 2006, and subsequently required that ultra-low sulfur with a sulphur content of 15 μg/g be introduced in 2006. Diesel (ULSD) standard.
