J.J.V. Valere and others Abstract Optical picking can be defined as a separation method based on the electromagnetic properties of a material, or more precisely in the visible light spectrum. In the last 10 years, the new development of optical sorters has greatly expanded the use of this process and has been specifically introduced into the processing of industrial minerals such as quartz, feldspar, fluorite, rock salt and carbonate rock. This article describes Research into the optical sorting of carbonate rocks using marble reserves in southern Brazil for industrial purposes. Testing with the CombiSense 1200 picker, measurements of the whiteness of carbonate products show that they meet the quality standards used as fillers in the paint, plastic and paper industries.
