抗战时期 ,众多的美术团体、院校和美术家 ,迁徙至以重庆为中心的大后方 ,使大后方成为战时美术最为活跃的区域。这一局面的形成 ,不仅与四川特殊的地理环境为美术家提供了相对安稳的生活创作条件有关 ,更重要的是文艺界抗日民族统一战线的形成 ,特别是中共南方局对抗日美术运动的关注与支持 ,为美术的繁荣营造了必要的政治氛围。美术家们在救亡旗帜的引导下 ,创作热情高涨 ,在中国现代美术史上写下了绚丽的篇章
