This article analyzes and compares the mortality rate and the main cause of mortality in Taiwan Province and Fujian Province in 1994. The infant mortality rate among infants, young children and the elderly in Taiwan is relatively low, and the mortality rates of children, youth and middle-aged people are similar. Malignant tumors, heart disease, pneumonia, hypertension, tuberculosis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and congenital malformation mortality rates were similar in the two provinces. The accidental mortality rates were also similar in the two provinces. The most significant difference is the high mortality rate of diabetes in Taiwan, and the high mortality rate of bronchitis and emphysema in Fujian Province. It can be considered that the two provinces have similar patterns of death because the two provinces have similar genetic backgrounds, living and eating habits, and the natural environment. The difference in the cause of death spectrum between the two provinces may be related to different economic levels.
