According to the theory, during the economic downturn, companies will increasingly use CRM software to help them win new customers and gain more from existing customers. However, for many customer relationship management companies, this theory does not improve sales or revenue, as evidenced by a series of recent revenue statistics. At least nine companies that developed software for managing customer relationships announced that their first-quarter earnings would be lower than previously estimated, and several of them also announced that they would lay off employees. “CRM companies can indeed provide the ability to help companies realize their expected gross profit, but they cannot escape the economic cycle we are experiencing.” Archer Andersen’s Internet Services Group
