Language, like culture, is seldom self-sufficient. The simplest effect of one language on another is the lending of words. As long as there are cultural loans, it is possible to borrow the relevant words. Borrowing a certain number of words from other national languages has become an indispensable way to expand the development of any language vocabulary. Both English and Chinese have a certain number of foreign words, and the proper use of foreign words can create the rhetorical effect that can not be achieved by the native words in English and Chinese. However, due to different social histories, national traditional cultural psychology, language structure and other factors, loanwords have similarities in English and Chinese rhetoric as well as their unique functions.
