Pre-war Japanese militarism not only infiltrated the political and economic life, but also had a strong influence on social life. Ordinary Japanese people often know militarism through newspapers, the arts, etc., and the so-called “national songs” are a series of nationalist songs including military songs. The songs not only promote the authorities’ position in the lyrics, but also have a subtle influence on the war awareness and political views of Japanese nationals because of their ease of singing. By examining “national songs,” we can not only glimpse the Japanese government’s tactics of propaganda and control over ordinary people’s thinking, but also understand a set of logic systems for the propaganda of Japanese militarism.
