现阶段含油气盆地的研究需要引入新的设备和手段，以处理日益增加的各种地质信息。地层－古生物资料块就是进一步分析这类信息最独特、最重要的手段之一。计算机处理技术，资料的累积、统一、保存和多结构的分析，以及利用大量的地层古生物资料，对认识含油气盆地的结构、形成、发展史提供了新的契机。为了开展这项研究工作，建议使用《生物年代》专用信息分析系统。
