庄子曰:“道在瓦甓。”清乾嘉金石学兴起以来,学者纷纷关注地下出土之三代鼎彝、秦砖汉瓦及田野山壑中存世之摩崖碑碣,引以为佐证史料、考据小学,传拓纸本更为书家印人所重,临摹经典、传承创新,金石之学,蔚然成风。其中,汉晋古砖向为金石家之爱,砖铭文字多篆隶古意,而画像则精美丰富,凡神祇、车马、建筑、农耕、狩猎、人物等皆有表现,所谓汉晋绘画赖之以传。
