Volume 4, Number 4, Asian Medicine News (1982) London News: Scientists believe it is expected to produce a commercially effective vaccine against malaria within a few years. A recent report published in the journal Nature by two researchers at the Wellcome Research Laboratory near London said they have identified two malaria-associated viruses in mice and have successfully purified them. Then they immunized their rats against malaria. Anthony Holder, one of the researchers, further confirmed that they have successfully identified a protein from human Plasmodium since they published their report in November last year. Following this major development, they are currently purifying this protein to produce enough protein to test monkeys. The first trial is expected in the next 12 months.
