Because miniature pig metabolism is very similar to that of humans, it makes it an ideal animal model for diabetes research. However, in the long-term breeding process as domestic animals, miniature pigs acquire the characteristics of resistance to diabetes. In our laboratory, we obtained an individual with hyperglycemia during pregnancy by screening fasting blood glucose from 245 adult Bama miniature pigs. The pig produced 11 offspring (10 surviving). Based on these 10 miniature pigs, Taking the performance traits of high-sugar and high-fat diets as breeding conditions, after 2 generations of breeding, the susceptibility to diabetes in mini-pigs began to develop from 7 months to 6 months. Therefore, speculated that there is hope to get a new strain of pigs susceptible to diabetes.
