Although Koda did not really participate in the Japanese translation of A Dream of Red Mansions, it was listed in the earliest eighty-day Japanese translation and earlier in Japan it focused on “A Dream of Red Mansions,” and wrote two related articles. He juxtaposes “Dream of Red Mansions” and “Outlaws of the Marsh” on the surface, and gives a high appraisal on the surface. In fact, he still persists in the traditional literary concepts. He believes that poetry in Chinese literature is authentic and the novel is not worth payingate attention to. As an old and new literati, Koda and his deep sense of Confucianism and Taoism and conservative novels are worth considering.
