通过对中国学者所撰写的英文科技论文进行主位推进模式研究,笔者发现中国学者所著语篇中的主位推进模式缺乏多样性。其原因可归结于两种语言的不同特点,中文语篇多为并列结构,把分句、从句或短语依次排列而不用连词或从属连词,英文语篇多使用从属结构,通过连词连接语篇。研究发现延续型主位推进模式是中国学者撰写英文科技论文时最常用的模式,这可部分归因于科技语篇的特点。基于上述发现,英语教师应该在教学过程中向学生传授主位推进的概念和模式,并且训练学生使用各种主位推进模式。
By studying the thematic progression mode of English scientific papers written by Chinese scholars, the author finds that there is no diversity of thematic progression modes in Chinese scholars’ discourse. The reason can be attributed to the different characteristics of the two languages. Most Chinese texts are parallel structures, and the clauses, clauses or phrases are arranged in sequence without conjunctions or subordinate conjunctions. English texts mostly use subordinate structures and connect texts through conjunctions. The study found that the continuum type of thematic progression mode is the most commonly used model for Chinese scholars writing English scientific papers, which can be partly attributed to the characteristics of scientific discourse. Based on the above findings, English teachers should teach students the concepts and modes of thematic progression during the teaching process, and train their students to use various thematic progression modes.
