Objective To establish a rat model of deep vein thrombosis suitable for dynamic study. Methods Sixty SD rats weighing 230 ± 20 g were randomly divided into three groups according to random number table: 36 in the animal model group, 18 in the control group and 6 in the sham operation group. The animal model group was established by the improved inferior vena cava ligation method. After the model was established, the pathological changes of the vascular intima and thrombus were observed and compared with the control group and the sham operation group. Results With the modified method, not only stable thrombus was formed in the inferior vena cava, but also the proximal end of the thrombosed vascular segment remained unobstructed, which was in line with the pathological changes in the acute phase of human venous thrombosis. Conclusion The rat model of deep venous thrombosis was successfully established for dynamic study.
