Garden is an art form in Chinese traditional culture. It originated from China’s “little music” culture. It uses flowers, wood, stone and other objects as the carrier to embody human spiritual culture. Chinese classical gardens have a long history and were initially formed in the Shang Dynasty. According to their identities, Chinese classical gardens are divided into three categories: royal gardens, private gardens, and temple gardens. Although there are some common artistic styles in the art of landscaping, the three individuals personally believe that private gardens reflect the aesthetic attitude of the literary scholars at that time and have a higher artistic value. Therefore, this article focuses on the construction of Suzhou private gardens from the perspectives of gardening material elements, techniques, and aesthetic characteristics to analyze the cultural connotation of Suzhou gardens.
