3G迟迟不到,TD-SCDMA前途仍不明朗,令完全依靠VC堆积起来的通信芯片设计公司展讯面临空前压力.“,”In the middle of August, when Wu Ping, president of Spreadtrum, just returned to Shanghai from the Silicon Valley, USA, he immediately called for a closed training for the top and middle managers. The theme of the training is that what kind of company Spreadtrum should become. They have discussed for three days, but no clear-cut conclusion was drawn. It is obvious that debate was existed at the board meeting too. It seems that the positioning problem of the company should be solved at the time of founding. However, the problem is still confusing this company which was established by returners from overseas Chinese students, many venture capital investors and telecom chip designing companies. Since the license of 3G is still suspended and the future of TD-SCDMA is not clear either, will the company be positioned in integrated circuits business or telecommunication equipment manufacture? How to keep confidence of the 37-members team who returned to China with Wu Ping? He is deeply involved in these contradictions. In July, 2001, when his business plan on 3G chips won support of investors, Wu Ping led the 37 returners from Silicon Valley to China and set up Spreadtrum. At that time, Wu was very ambitious to obtain his right of voicing in chip design circle, the most upper part of the 3G industrial chain. In the past three years, Spreadtrum got investment from Fortune Venture, NEA, Acer and many other foreign and domestic investors, which was totally over 60 million US dollars. Now it is the time for these investors to quit and make cash from their investment. The company faces the danger that the company may be sold out at anytime. Under this condition, can Spreadtrum keep waiting for the blossom of 3G, then go public ideally?
