Most of the energy resources of the Soviet Union are distributed in the eastern region, while the main energy consumption centers are located in the western region. Therefore, the Soviet Union’s energy transportation distance is very long. Taking 1980 as an example, the average distance of coal transported by the Soviet Union reached 818 kilometers, and the average transport distance of oil and natural gas reached 1,874 kilometers and 1,851 kilometers respectively. In recent years, the Soviet Union has annually transported more than 200 million tons of oil, more than 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas and hundreds of millions of tons of coal from the east to the west. In 1983, only 700 million tons of standard coal was transported to Siberia alone in Siberia, and it will still be close to 7,000 each year.
