A report of the newly discovered ancient fossil fossil, Yuyuanozoon magnificissimi gen.et sp.nov, from the Chengjiang fauna of the Early Cambrian in Yunnan Province. The new species has a dichotomous body configuration and five pairs of chain arranged gill sac, showing the basic characteristics of the ancient insect door. However, the distinctive “perireal gills” and gill structures of the new species indicate that it differs from the other genera of the previously described ancestral gates and may represent a more primitive back-mouth animal than the caudatus Branch.
