During the Eastern Han Dynasty, hanging sacrifices were important ceremonies in funeral activities. In the emperors, aristocrats, official funerals and civilians’ funeral activities, hanging presents are an important way of expressing their grief about the dead. However, due to social class differences, the mode of hanging presents is not the same. In national funeral ceremonies, different ways of offering sacrifices reflect differences in funeral specifications. In private funeral activities, the hanging sacrifices were influenced by various social relations and thus became a way for the slayer to contact the mourner.
