在目前的明清区域社会史研究中 ,被称为浙西的杭嘉湖地区 ,一般都被当作一个社会、经济和文化均相对发达的统一整体看待。但实际上 ,在其内部 ,特别是其中杭、湖两府的各州县 ,在发展程度上 ,存在着明显的差异。为更好地了解和研究这一地区 ,本文根据州县官缺等第、地理条件、人口密度、绅士密度和市镇数量等标准 ,将清前期的浙西地区划分成中心、中间和边缘三个发展层次。
In the current study of social history in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou area, known as the western Zhejiang Province, has generally been treated as a unified and holistic society with relatively developed social, economic and cultural backgrounds. However, in fact, there are obvious differences in the degree of development within each prefecture and county, especially in the two prefectures of Hangzhou and Hubei.
