(一) 黑翅土白蚁在我省荆江大堤分布很广,危害极大。一九六○年地表普查发现受害堤段长达91.35公里,占大堤全长的50％;数量多至6808处,平均每公里74处,密度最大的每公里在300处以上,主巢最大直径1至3米,深埋3至5米,巢穴密布,蚁路纵横。解放前曾多次导致倒堤溃口,给人民带来深重的灾难。在群众中至今仍有“千里会堤,溃于蚁穴”的传说。解放后,在党中央和毛主席的亲切关怀和正确领导下,荆江大堤在连年整险加固的同时,并开展了对土白蚁的防治工作,到目前为止,总共查出和处理白蚁隐患76000多处。经
