One of the largest islands on the planet, New Guinea, or the peoples of South East Asia, now calls Irian, to the east of Indonesia and to the north of Australia. The western end of Irian, directly adjoins the Indonesian archipelago, and forms with it a complete geographical unity. Due to its bizarre shape along the coast, Indonesian people also call Irian’s western part the “bird’s head.” Irian is still one of the least studied regions in the world to this day. The writings of Russian scientist and traveler Miklosi Macquarie are still today the most valuable and interesting books that study the living and natural conditions of the island inhabitants. The foreign colonists ruled Irian for decades had only managed to open up the narrow coastal zone around the island, which was only familiar with the narrow coastal zone. Behind this zone is uncultivated landless
