Hall, an American educator and psychologist of the early twentieth century, recognized that dancing is associated with all the profound experiences in traditional societies. He felt that dance education should include religious dance, love dance and war dance ... Hall did not limit his approval of formalized and imitative dance. He also argues for the free and arbitrary dance of mind and body that expresses emotions. Emotions that have not been awakened or disallowed in primitive life are experienced and expressed in this way. He believes this approach will provide a safety valve for the emotions, to keep them healthy and to enrich the emotional life of the dancers.
