The year 2013 Chinese characters “room” defeated “haze”, “dream” and other words, was elected as China’s annual Chinese characters selected by some institutions. Since 2006, some Chinese institutions have begun to select the annual Chinese characters to summarize the major events and trends that have taken place in the Chinese society over the past year. Objectively speaking, the annual Chinese characters selected by these institutions did not resonate widely. It was also difficult to unify the different key points of concern among different industries and sectors. In Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia, both of which belong to the cultural circle of Chinese characters, such judging generally suffers from such a situation. What’s more, it is impossible for the Chinese annual Chinese character selection to obtain the government’s approval. In the process of operation, there is a lack of national community forces such as Japan’s blessing of religious elements and Malaysian Chinese traditional culture conservation.
