Lysosomes are an important organelle. During cerebral ischemia, lysosomal enzyme release in lysosomes is involved in apoptosis of the neurons, that is, apoptosis of the lysosomal pathway of ischemic neuronal apoptosis. Lysosomal enzymes, including cathepsins and lipolytic enzymes, release into the cytoplasm when the lysosomal membrane breaks down, eventually leading to disruption of cell structure and apoptosis. This review discusses the recent advances in the death of ischemic neurons and explores the possible molecular mechanisms by which lysosomal enzymes participate in the apoptotic pathway of cell death in ischemic brain injury and at the same time suggests the selective cathepsin inhibition Agents may be new therapeutic targets for treating stroke and promoting rehabilitation.
