“象征主义”像许多现代艺术一样,更注重表现诗人对于世界的主观感受,重视内省、关注内心,将摄入外界的印象,植入与之相对应的象征形象中,让这些意象代表和暗示更多的内容,使其主题呈繁复与多解性特征。但仅仅是语言本身的暗示功能已经不能满足象征主义诗人内心表诉的要求,他们求助于艺术的其他领域—绘画与音乐。色彩的表现与旋律感便是这种求助的最重要的方面。李金发的诗是绘画、音乐与情思三者相互交融的结果,而音与色的合力,正是以他为代表的象征诗派的追求。诗只有在接近绘画与音乐的时候,艺术才会显得更加深广。绘画与音乐不仅有着在旋律、节奏、色彩等形式上的长处,更为重要的是,它们具有强烈的暗示功能,与人的精神活动天然契合,最能展示人的精神的律动。
