The personalities of Henry David Thoreau have three traits: materiality, morality, and spirituality. Materiality is manifested in the desire and struggle for material needs; morality is reflected in the ability of self-criticism and dogma; spirituality shows the pursuit of a higher ideological realm beyond the necessities of life. Thoreau criticized people for excessive pursuit of materiality, while ignoring spiritual and moral improvement. This erroneous assessment of personal values has led to an extreme desire for physical life and an excessive demand for nature. Correct understanding should transcend blind worship of material life, draw nutrition in nature and gain spiritual insights. While recognizing individual values, it naturally creates a sense of reverence that goes beyond material interests.
